Caminetto Business 109, Rusticated Straight Brandy Estate Briar Pipe [SOLD OUT]
Out of stock
Description
Caminetto was, and is to this day, a decisive figure in the history of Italy’s pipe workshop tradition. After spending time developing their skills in the Castello workshop, Sergio Ascorti and Luigi Radice left to found their own venture, which they named, ‘Caminetto.’ Here, Ascorti and Radice were able to create their own now-classic shapes and finishes, such as the rusticated ‘business,’ and the carved, wax-drip ‘new dear.’
The ‘Business’ line was Caminetto’s answer to Italy’s historic love affair with rusticated finishes. Given that Ascorti and Radice will have spent hours crafting the coveted Sea Rock pipes for Castello, it’s only natural that they would have created something that could compete. This pipe is an example of that: it’s rugged, rustic, and indeed rocky, but it’s closer to the Sea Rock style found in the earlier period of Castello’s manufacture than the more fine-grained recent productions. It’s also distinct from both, especially in the choice of fumed, burgundy stain used, as well as the more stout proportions of its shaping.
The condition appears to be excellent. It’s always hard to tell with pipes designed in such a rugged aesthetic, but I see no outstanding issues with this one.
