Description

Bari was a pipe company founded in Kolding, Denmark, in 1950. Along with Stanwell, Bari was one of the first companies that started the Danish movement in pipe-making, offering innovative designs and propelling its founders and carvers into celebrity status within the pipe world. Bari’s founder was Viggo Nielsen, whose sons Kai Nielsen and Jørgen Nielsen joined him in working at Bari, along with other soon-to-be famous names such as Åge Bogelund. Though the Bari company is long gone, its legacy lives on in the artisan pipe scene as it exists today.

I’ve found Bari to be something of a hidden gem within Danish pipe making. Of course, back in the day, Bari Piber’s excellence was hardly overlooked, but the times do change. This acorn (or strawberry depending on how you look at it) makes a powerful case for that. Its shaping strikes a delicate balance between distinctive and traditional, and its straight grain patterns are simply superb. Judging by the Stanwell and WO Larsen estates markets recently, it looks as though the great Danish pipe companies are quickly regaining their renown—so perhaps a Bari revival is not so far off after all.

The condition is very good. Some inner rim darkening. This pipe comes with its original box.
