Astleys of London Smooth Canted Dublin Estate Briar Pipe
Out of stock
Description
Astleys was one of London’s most historic pipe and tobacco shops. Like many pipe tobacconists, its owners had pipes made specially to be sold under the shop’s name. Astleys pipes, however, were made by some of the premier pipe manufacturers and artisans in the UK, such as Dunhill, Charatan, Les Wood, and Ken Barnes and Barry Jones of James Upshall. As a result, Astleys pipes are prized for their quality, and as examples of the very finest British pipes.
Here we have another absolutely beautiful pipe from the famed Jermyn St tobacconist. This one is very classically-inclined, being almost Bing-length with a canted, group 2-3 sized bowl. It wears a warm, golden-brown stain that accentuates plenty of bird’s-eye grain patterns, and is practically light as a feather.
The condition is great. There’s some inner rim darkening, but the finish is otherwise unblemished, the vulcanite stem is free from dents, and the nomenclature remains crisp, including the Astleys stem logo.
