Astleys of London Plateau Grain Estate Briar Pipe [SOLD OUT]

Out of stock

Description

Astleys was one of London’s most historic pipe and tobacco shops. Like many pipe tobacconists, its owners had pipes made specially to be sold under the shop’s name. Astleys pipes, however, were made by some of the premier pipe manufacturers and artisans in the UK, such as Dunhill, Charatan, Les Wood, and Ken Barnes and Barry Jones of James Upshall. As a result, Astleys pipes are prized for their quality, and as examples of the very finest British pipes.

This has to be one of the most unique Astleys pipes I’ve ever seen – and I’ve seen a lot of Astleys pipes. And yes, just in case you were wondering, it is a genuine Astleys.

I can’t say precisely who made it, but the maker seems to have decided that one can never have too much plateau briar on a pipe. If you’d asked me if this was the case before seeing the pipe, I might have been skeptical, but I must say, this one really pulls it off. It’s fascinating to look at, and thoroughly rustic, while still having an English charm to it. It’s also very lightweight, so it won’t be difficult to clench. That said, it’s incredibly enjoyable to get your hands on it.

The condition is pristine. I don’t see any issues with this pipe whatsoever. The previous owner clearly took great care of it. They even made sure to hold onto its original box. As I said when this came in, what a find!
