Astleys Full Bent Sandblasted Egg Estate Briar Pipe [SOLD OUT]
Out of stock
Description
Astleys was one of London’s most historic pipe and tobacco shops. Like many pipe tobacconists, its owners had pipes made specially to be sold under the shop’s name. Astleys pipes, however, were made by some of the premier pipe manufacturers and artisans in the UK, such as Dunhill, Charatan, Les Wood, and Ken Barnes and Barry Jones of James Upshall. As a result, Astleys pipes are prized for their quality, and as examples of the very finest British pipes.
One thing I particularly enjoy about Astleys pipes is that, because many of them were hand made by England’s finest artisan pipe-makers of the time, there’s a fascinating variety of shapes to be found in them. This one is a good example of that; it could be called an Oom Paul, or Hungarian, but the bowl proportions are far closer to a Danish-style egg, which is what we’ve chosen to describe it as. It’s a great feat of engineering to pull off a shape like this, but Astleys did only hire the very best.
The condition is excellent. I don’t see anything that needs highlighting on this one – even the Astleys stem logo has been perfectly preserved.
