Ashton Achievement ELX Sandblasted Panel Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked

Description

Ashton is an English pipe brand created by William Ashton Taylor, a former Dunhill pipe-maker who left Dunhill in the 1980s to make pipes under his own name. Along with other pipe-makers such as James Upshall and Ferndown, Ashton emerged as part of a new wave of high end, hand made British pipes in the late 20th century.

Ashton’s Achievement series is unique compared the workshop’s other lines, in that it is marked not by a central, distinguishing feature (such as the burgundy sandblast or natural sandblast of the Pebble Grain and Old Church respectively), but by designs that are, quite simply, extraordinary, and which therefore do not fit neatly within the more established categories of Ashton pipes. Sometimes this means unconventional accents or ferrules, and other times it means shapes not typically found in the workshop’s portfolio. This one is a large, panel (or foursquare) sitter, evocative of Dunhill OD shapes—and, by extension, Ashton’s fellow Dunhill-inspired contemporaries, such as J.T. Cooke. This Dunhill connection is even more prominent given its dark, burgundy-brown finish and crisp sandblast, created using a process patented by Bill Taylor himself.

This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. It comes with its original leather sleeve.
