Armentrout Sandblasted Artisan Estate Briar Pipe, American Estates [SOLD OUT]
Out of stock
Description
Originally a science teacher in California, Nathan Armentrout began making pipes in 2009 and has since emerged as one of North America’s most talented, high-grade artisan pipe-makers. Inspired by Denmark’s legendary carvers, Nathan’s designs continue the legacy of the Danish pipe-making movement into the present day and expand that legacy through his own unique interpretations of the masters of old.
Speaking of Danish masters, this particular Armentrout is strongly reminiscent of the great Lars Ivarsson. It’s a slightly bent egg with a teardrop-shaped shank, quite like Lars used to make. As a Danish superfan, I would consider it a worthy homage. I also like the extra little touches, such as the shank accent – zebrawood, perhaps? – and the plateau rim. As with many of Armentrout’s pipes, this one is beautifully sandblasted, bringing out the briar’s natural ring grain, and contrast stained in various hues of dark red.
