Antique M&T Carved Estate Briar Pipe, German Estates (Müllenbach & Thewald) [SOLD OUT]
Out of stock
Description
Müllenbach & Thewald is a company with an interesting history. They started making pipes in 1830 in Westerwalld Germany. They primarily made clay pipes in the beginning, and then transitioned into briar in the 1860s. Where things get particularly interesting is the Müllenbach & Thewald factory was destroyed by the allies in 1945. By 1947, a new factory was built and production restarted. Sadly, M&T couldn’t compete with up and coming factories such as Vauen and Oldenkott and closed in 1974.
This beautifully carved briar is fairly large at over 7″ in length. The detail is stunning. We’ve seen a lot of briar, and this is the most detailed figural briar pipe we’ve seen.
