Andrey Kharitonov Smooth Fish Hook Handmade Briar Pipe, New

Description

Andrey Kharitonov is, to my eye, one of the most innovative artisans in pipe-making today. Born in 1961 in the former Soviet Union, Kharitonov’s work has been inspired by a number of his compatriots in the artisan scene, such as Victor Yashtylov, Misha Revyagin, and Alexey Kharmalov. Like the latter, Kharitonov frequently experiments with novel shapes, textures, and stains, creating pipes that are instantly recognizable as his own.

As I explained in the other Kharitonov listed tonight, I am extremely excited to be stocking Andrey pipes at MBSD. I’ve been following his work for a while on one particular pipe forum, and while his designs were always imaginative and distinct, it’s in the last few years that he’s truly come into his own. More recently, Andrey has been exploring especially aquatic or maritime designs. In this instance, the impetus was the fishing hook, whose form Andrey has reimagined as the basis for a particularly striking – not to mention artistic – pipe.
