Adam Davidson Smooth Bent Dublin Estate Briar Pipe, American Estates [SOLD]

Description

A graduate of industrial design and of a less formal apprenticeship under Todd Johnson, Adam Davidson has become one of North America’s most renowned artisan pipe-makers. Davidson initially worked with Johnson on his Medici pipes, while also being employed as a refurbisher for one of America’s leading pipe dealers. He then went solo, soon rising among the ranks of the American handmade pipe scene until he arrived at a stature comparable to contemporaries such as Johnson and Jeff ‘J. Alan’ Gracik.

Now here is a Danish Dublin if I ever saw one. It’s a freehand composition, which is evident from the gentler curvature and general shaping of the stummel, but it’s also a very reserved design, with the most pronounced hallmarks of the freehand tradition being the pipe’s plateau rim and shank end. The grain is spectacular – but I wouldn’t expect anything less from Davidson – and the pipe, despite its fairly muscular stature, is a mere 40 grams, making it likely a comfortable clencher for many smokers.

The condition is excellent. All I note is some minor, inner rim darkening. This pipe came to us from the estate of a high-end collector, through our trade-in program. Having seen some of his other pipes that came to us, it is evident that he took great care of them.
