Description

Nørding was founded by Erik Nørding in the 1960s, and is one of the oldest remaining companies to come out of the Scandinavian pipe-making renaissance that began in the mid-20th century. Now in his 80s, Erik Nørding is one of the most experienced and skilled pipe-makers in the world, and over the decades he has also been a teacher of other Danish masters, such as Poul Ilsted, Svend Axel Celius, Jens Tao Nielsen, Peder Jeppesen, and Søren Erik Andersen.

Since 1995, Erik Nording has released a yearly limited edition run of pipes designed in collaboration with Danish wildlife illustrator Mogens Andersen. Each pipe is inspired by a different game animal, with this pipe, from 2003, having been inspired by the white-tailed deer. The result is a beautiful Danish-style paneled horn, one that has been executed with a masterful use of the briar’s natural bird’s-eye (side panels) and flame (top and bottom panels) grain, and a warm brown stain to accentuate these patterns. Added to this is a simple saddle stem of jet black vulcanite. The pipe is surprisingly lightweight, making it a relatively comfortable clencher to boot.

The condition is new, and the pipe comes with its original tube box, sock, and artwork by Mogens Andersen. I did notice what appeared to be a small briar imperfection on the left side of the pipe, but this is entirely superficial.
