1993 Dunhill Shell Ring Grain Hand Turned Grp 5 Pot Estate Briar Pipe, English Estates
Out of stock
Description
To veteran pipe smokers, Dunhill needs no introduction. Beginning in 1907, Alfred Dunhill began selling Dunhill pipes at the tobacconist shop he owned on London’s Duke Street. Very quickly, these pipes gained the reputation of being the ‘Rolls-Royce’ of pipes due to how expertly crafted they were. Today, Dunhill is likely Britain’s most famous pipe manufacturer, and continues to produce some of the most treasured pipes a smoker can buy.
There are a couple of things about this Dunhill that distinguish it from other pipes from the venerable English make. One is that it is an early example of Dunhill’s Ring Grain line, a higher-grade variation on the Shell Briar finish for pipes with particularly excellent grain patterns. Hence the pipe is designated with the RG stamp. Another distinction this pipe holds is that it is one of Dunhill’s Hand Turned pipes, meaning it was carved more or less “freehand” and not in accordance with Dunhill’s shape chart. Hence the pipe features the HT stamp. It all comes together in this slightly unorthodox —perhaps even a little Danish—pot design, rendered in a form that befits its wonderfully craggy finish. Group 5 size.
The condition is great. I don’t note any outstanding issues regarding its condition. This pipe came to us via our trade-in program, along with a Dunhill presentation case.
