1978 Dunhill Shell 51033 Sandblasted Billiard Estate Briar Pipe, English Estates

Description
To veteran pipe smokers, Dunhill needs no introduction. Beginning in 1907, Alfred Dunhill began selling Dunhill pipes at the tobacconist shop he owned on London’s Duke Street. Very quickly, these pipes gained the reputation of being the ‘Rolls-Royce’ of pipes due to how expertly crafted they were. Today, Dunhill is likely Britain’s most famous pipe manufacturer, and continues to produce some of the most treasured pipes a smoker can buy.
As one of pioneers of traditional pipes, Dunhill pipes tend to be on the smaller side, as was the standard in the early 20th century. But there are notable exceptions, with these most commonly being found in the make’s group 5 pipes. This shape 51033 billiard from 1978 (back when Dunhill shape codes were briefly five digits, rather than four), is a good, stout pipe, reminiscent of a slightly larger and slightly more slender LBS. The pipe is dressed in Dunhill’s Shell Briar finish, which shows off some nice ring grain on the bowl’s right flank.
The condition is great. Some minor darkening and finish fading on the rim.
