1968 Dunhill Shell 33 Group 2 Sandblasted Liverpool Estate Briar Pipe, English Estates
Out of stock
Description
To veteran pipe smokers, Dunhill needs no introduction. Beginning in 1907, Alfred Dunhill began selling Dunhill pipes at the tobacconist shop he owned on London’s Duke Street. Very quickly, these pipes gained the reputation of being the ‘Rolls-Royce’ of pipes due to how expertly crafted they were. Today, Dunhill is likely Britain’s most famous pipe manufacturer, and continues to produce some of the most treasured pipes a smoker can buy.
Dunhill’s shape “33” Liverpool is not one that I see much as an estates seller. It was one of Dunhill’s standard shapes from the early- to mid-20th century, yet I’ve still seen far fewer of them than, say, the EC Canadian, and that was a Quaint. But, I digress. Here we have an example of the 33 Liverpool in Dunhill’s Shell Briar finish, which is nicely craggy as the mid-century Dunhills famously were. It is a group 2, so it’s compact, a featherweight, and a perfect clencher, but with chamber dimensions that will still suit a nice, moderately long smoke (especially with something like a flake cut). As a 1968 vintage, it will also have been one of the last Dunhill pipes to undergo oil curing treatment during manufacture, which many find to be a bonus.

The condition is fair. There’s definitely some rim darkening and a little bit of tooth chatter, though nothing major as far as the stem goes.
