1949 Dunhill London, FET Smooth Prince Estate Briar Pipe, Patent Era [SOLD OUT]

Out of stock

Description

To veteran pipe smokers, Dunhill needs no introduction. Beginning in 1907, Alfred Dunhill began selling Dunhill pipes at the tobacconist shop he owned on London’s Duke Street. Very quickly, these pipes gained the reputation of being the ‘Rolls-Royce’ of pipes due to how expertly crafted they were. Today, Dunhill is likely Britain’s most famous pipe manufacturer, and continues to produce some of the most treasured pipes a smoker can buy.

This particular Dunhill will appeal to collectors as well as lovers of well made smoking machines. It is a patent era (1949) straight prince shape (FET). The nomenclature though a little faint, reads:

A or R (very faint)  DUNHILL

LONDON

and

MADE IN ENGLAND 9 (9 is underlined)  FET

PAT N° 417574/34  F/T

The pipe is in remarkable condition for its age. The one thing that we must point out is that it has a dark spot on the underside of the bowl. However, after close inspection of the chamber and the bowl exterior, it has been deduced that this is not from a burnout, and is instead likely from the pipe having been inadvertently rested on something hot, such as an ash pile in an ashtray. The price has been adjusted accordingly, but rest assured that the darkening is minimal, and not a sign of any impact on the pipe’s structural integrity or smokeability.
