1940s Kaywoodie Goard Calabash Estate Pipe [SOLD OUT]
Out of stock
Description
Kaywoodie pipes are as American as apple pie. Starting in 1919 as a pipe brand for KB&B, a pipe shop dating all the way back to 1851, Kaywoodie has since then been a staple of American-made pipes. In the present, many Kaywoodies are collectors’ items, in addition to being fantastic smokers.
Earlier this year, at the Columbus pipe show, I was perusing the various tables when my attention was captured by a sizable Calabash. Almost immediately, I recognized it as a stunning gourd Calabash, specifically a Kaywoodie Calabash. While I had read about them and occasionally spotted them on eBay, this was my first in-person encounter. The table showcasing the Kaywoodie belonged to none other than the esteemed Tim West. Unfortunately, negotiations for Tim’s Kaywoodie didn’t materialize into a deal. However, my excitement was reignited when we recently stumbled upon the Kaywoodie Calabash featured here.
Kaywoodie crafted Calabashes from the 1930s to the 70s, and based on the presence of a 4-hole stinger on this particular pipe, it leads us to believe it hails from the 1940s. The pipe is in near-pristine condition, making it a splendid addition to any collector’s repertoire.
++The stand is for photo purposes only and does not come with the pipe++
