1935 Kaywoodie Drinkless 8704 Smooth Lovat Estate Briar Pipe, American Estates
Out of stock
Description
Kaywoodie pipes are as American as apple pie. Starting in 1919 as a pipe brand for KB&B, a pipe shop dating all the way back to 1851, Kaywoodie has since then been a staple of American-made pipes. In the present, many Kaywoodies are collectors’ items, in addition to being fantastic smokers.
The “Drinkless” was Kaywoodie’s renowned stinger system. It is essentially a four-hole stinger attached to the tenon that alleviates moisture build-up and cools the smoke while the pipe is being used. This rendition is one of Kaywoodie’s early Lovat shapes, which features remarkable straight grain around its bowl. As this Kaywoodie has a four-digit shape code and does not feature the KB&B “cloverleaf” emblem stamped on the shank, this pipe should be from 1935.
The condition is very good. The rim shows some darkening and a slight over-reaming at the top of the chamber, but for a nearly 90 year-old pipe, it’s exceptionally well preserved.
