1920s Kaywoodie Thorn 7486B Rusticated Straight Apple Estate Briar Pipe [SOLD]
Out of stock
Description
Kaywoodie pipes are as American as apple pie. Starting in 1919 as a pipe brand for KB&B, a pipe shop dating all the way back to 1851, Kaywoodie has since then been a staple of American-made pipes. In the present, many Kaywoodies are collectors’ items, in addition to being fantastic smokers.
As Kaywoodie collectors will tell you, a rule of thumb to follow with these pipes is that a four-digit shape code (whether appended by letters or not) denotes the pipe’s era of manufacture as prior to 1936. This pipe does not have a Drinkless stinger, nor a Synchro-Stem screw-in tenon and mortise, which dates this Kaywoodie to the 1920s – putting it in the rare category. The pipe itself is a lightweight and eminently tactile rusticated apple, with a small, smooth polished section at the shank end that gives the appearance of a decorative band.
The condition is very good. There is some rim darkening, especially at the back of the rim, but for a pipe of its age, this Kaywoodie has been preserved remarkably.
