HS Studio Morta Dublin w/ Boxwood Estate Pipe, Unsmoked

Out of stock

Description

While China has long been associated with cheaper factory pipes, a new generation of artisans and workshops have emerged over the past decade, producing some genuinely excellent pipes. HS Studio is an example of the latter, being a Hong Kong workshop dedicated to crafting handmade briars, typically in shapes and styles reminiscent of the post-war artisan scene.

Morta, also known as bog oak, is a fascinating material. It is harvested from oak trees that lived thousands of years ago and which, after falling into peat bogs, underwent fossilization. This makes the wood from these trees especially resilient, and the practice of making it into pipes is almost as old as the briar. Briar, of course, would ultimately become the more popular standard, but in recent decades, artisans have been rediscovering the potential for its uses. This one comes from the artisans at HS Studio, and features a shank accent cut from a similarly resilient hardwood, boxwood, along with a black ebonite stem.

This pipe is completely unsmoked.
