MBSD Meerschaum Masters is our line for special, typically figural, meerschaum pipes carved by some of today’s greatest living meerschaum carvers. For this pipe, we enlisted the services of Turkish master Kenan.

While animals have featured as prominent motifs in meerschaum carving since its inception, these animals (whether real or imaginary) have typically been those rooted in the European consciousness, or in that of Türkiye, where the pipes have predominantly been carved. For this pipe, however, Turkish master Kenan chose as his subject the mythological Chinese dragon, or loong. It’s a fitting design for a pipe, come to think of it, from the shank and stem standing in for the dragon’s snaking body, to the smoke billowing from its nostrils. as Kenan has beautifully captured.
