Viprati Smooth Dublin w/ Silver Mount Estate Briar Pipe, Italian Estates
Out of stock
Description
Much like in Denmark or Japan, many of the great names in Italian artisan pipe-making got their start working for other greats in their famous workshops. This was the case for artisans such as Giancarlo Guidi, Luigi Radice, Sergio Ascorti, and Maurizio Tombari. Luigi Viprati, on the other hand, is one of the few self-taught Italian pipe-makers of the 20th century to have reached the same heights as such contemporaries. First picking up the craft in 1972, Viprati would ultimately become one of the defining names in Italian pipes, which he remains to this day.
There is little not to like about this Dublin from Luigi Viprati. It is quite large, but nonetheless flows gracefully in its shaping, helped in no small part by the bowl’s flame grain and bird’s-eye patterns. The inclusion of a sterling silver faux spigot, engraved with subtle Rococo motifs, only furthers this general elegance of the design. It’s a flashy pipe, yes, but what would life be without a little luxury?
The condition is good. Some wear to the rim, including a spot of char on the back lip.
