Description
Stanwell is one of Denmark’s most celebrated and enduring pipe companies, having been founded by Poul Nielsen shortly after the second world war. Over the last six decades, Stanwell has established itself as both a leader in innovative Danish design and for producing well-priced pipes with precision construction and engineering. Many of its designs were created for the company by iconic pipe-makers in the Scandinavian scene, such as Sixten Ivarsson, Anne Julie, Jess Chonowitsch, and Tom Eltang.
Since 1979, Stanwell has released an annual, limited edition “Pipe of the Year,” with some years featuring two distinct models for the domestic and German (filter) markets. Like so many Stanwell pipes, the Pipe of the Year is typically designed for Stanwell by one of Denmark’s legendary pipe-makers. This one was designed by Tom Eltang, which makes sense given his fondness for lightweight, functionalist designs just like this Dublin here.
The condition is fair. Rim darkening, finish fading, and the stem is either a replacement, or the Stanwell “S” logo has been buffed off it (which can happen). Nothing to stop it being a great pipe, but I’ve adjusted the price accordingly.
