Sasieni 80XS Windsor Sandblasted Oom Paul Estate Briar Pipe, English Estates

Along with names like Barling, Charatan, and Dunhill Sasieni holds a special place in the history of English smoking pipes – one near to its very beginnings. So the story goes, Sasieni himself worked for Dunhill during its early days. But eventually he left Dunhill, having his own ideas about how pipes should be made, and founded Sasieni. This was 1919, and Sasieni has been the closest thing to a household name in English pipes ever since. Windsor was one of Sasieni’s sub-brands.

Sasieni’s Oom Paul shapes are iconic as far as traditional pipe-making goes, to the point where, whenever I see an Oom Paul from any make, I can’t help but compare it to that Great British design. Alternately known as the shape 80 and the Cowes, it is a full bent billiard, with a deep chamber and, in most cases (as with this one), it’s wonderfully lightweight, making it ideal for hanging from the jaw or simply sipping away for a good while. This one is a sandblasted version from the make’s Mayfair sub-brand, which shows off a good deal of ring grain in the briar.

The condition is fair. Rim darkening and some finish fading.
