Description
Garrett Woo is an American artisan pipe-maker based in Los Angeles, California. A technician by trade, Woo applies his years of experience working with machine tools to the production of hand made smoking pipes, which are crafted with the same amount of precision expected in his other professional duties.
While the use of bamboo in pipe-making originated due to the necessities of a briar shortage during and following the Second World War, it is now a popular medium for artisans to show off their skills. After all, introducing a separate material to an instrument that was previously comprised of only two (or, perhaps three if we include Delrin tenons) introduces a new dimension of complexity to its design and engineering. This particular bamboo apple shows that Los Angeles’ Garrett Woo is able to work in these dimensions with ease, crafting an elegant, lightweight smoking instrument in the process. The extra pearly band around the mortise and cumberland stem are nice touches, too.
The condition is good. Some rim darkening and what looks to be a nick in the back of the bowl exterior. It is superficial, however.
