2000 Julius Vesz Hand Cut Gr. 8 Smooth Billiard Estate Briar Pipe, Canadian Estates
Out of stock
Description
Hungarian-Canadian artisan Julius Vesz carved his first pipe all the way back in 1959, and continues making pipes today in the 2020s. With 60 years of experience in the craft, he is recognized as one of the most seasoned and skilled pipe-makers around, counting among his admirers luminaries such as Richard Carleton Hacker, who remarked upon the ‘rare elegance’ inherent to Vesz’s work.
“Hand Cut” is Julius Vesz’s premier line of pipes, hand made from his finest blocks of well-aged briar—which is saying something, considering that one of the things Vesz is most famous for is the stock of choice, seasoned briar that he has been collecting since the mid-20th century. This Hand Cut grade 8 is quite reminiscent of a Large Billiard design, by which I mean the classic Dunhill shape, rather than a magnum, or perhaps a French Maigret. It features stout proportions, thick bowl walls, a virgin stain over excellent grain—just as promised—and hand cut black ebonite stem.
The condition is great. Some very light charring of the inner rim but overall well looked after.
