North Dane Pipes was a sub-brand of Georg Jensen, a pipe factory founded Copenhagen, Denmark in 1954. Georg Jensen itself was first owned by Per Georg Jensen Sr., before the reins were passed to Lis Jensen and Per Georg Jensen Jr. in the 1980s. Along with Stanwell, Kriswill and Bari, Georg Jensen was one of a number of Danish pipe companies which helped to change the pipe world forever from the 1950s onwards, ushering in the now-famous tradition of Danish design.

If I asked you to think of a “Danish stack” shape, there’s a good chance you’d think of Pibe-Dan (also known as Pipe Dan), and their legendary Reformed “checkmark” shapes, perhaps along with the many other tall, Dan designs created by Gert Holbek or Sven Knudsen. I’m a big fan of those pipes too, but I also think that the stack shapes of makes like Kriswill and Georg Jensen are criminally underrated. This is one of the latter, and keen-eyed viewers may notice that it originated in Georg Jensen’s Gigant line. I’m not entirely sure whether North Dane was a seconds outlet for Georg Jensen, or whether it was just a more “Danish” way of marketing GJ pipes (like Stanwell’s US-import Danish Sovereign), but the pipe looks great to me, including its grain. Better still, as its chamber is nearly two and a half inches deep, you could rub a flake or two into it and happily puff away for hours (as it’s so lightweight, you could probably clench it all the while, too).

The condition is very good. Some rim darkening and slight residual oxidation on the stem.
