To veteran pipe smokers, Dunhill needs no introduction. Beginning in 1907, Alfred Dunhill began selling Dunhill pipes at the tobacconist shop he owned on London’s Duke Street. Very quickly, these pipes gained the reputation of being the ‘Rolls-Royce’ of pipes due to how expertly crafted they were. Today, Dunhill is likely Britain’s most famous pipe manufacturer, and continues to produce some of the most treasured pipes a smoker can buy.

Dunhill’s cherrywood shape was one of the earliest – to my knowledge – to feature a mixed finish, having a rounded, smooth rim when otherwise sandblasted. This one is a group 4 Shell (later Shell Briar), with a fairly uncommon fishtail taper stem, rather than the saddle more often seen on Dunhills of this design.

The condition is fair. Some rim darkening, and a professional shank repair by repairman and pipe-maker Dave Neeb. The pipe has been priced to reflect this.
