Description
Hungarian-Canadian artisan Julius Vesz carved his first pipe all the way back in 1959, and continues making pipes today in the 2020s. With 60 years of experience in the craft, he is recognized as one of the most seasoned and skilled pipe-makers around, counting among his admirers luminaries such as Richard Carleton Hacker, who remarked upon the ‘rare elegance’ inherent to Vesz’s work.
“Hand Cut” is Julius Vesz’s premier line of pipes, hand made from his finest blocks of well-aged briar—which is saying something, considering that one of the things Vesz is most famous for is the stock of choice, seasoned briar that he has been collecting since the mid-20th century. This particular Vesz is a very unique design, sitting halfway between a bent brandy and Vesz’s signature Raindrop motif. It’s a chunkier, more rugged departure from traditional shapes, with a wide, deep chamber and what looks to be a Buddha bamboo shank extension. Grade 9.
The condition is very good. Slight handling marks and some minor wear to the rim. This pipe comes with its original sleeve.
