Description

Along with names like Barling, Charatan, and Dunhill Sasieni holds a special place in the history of English smoking pipes – one near to its very beginnings. So the story goes, Sasieni himself worked for Dunhill during its early days. But eventually he left Dunhill, having his own ideas about how pipes should be made, and founded Sasieni. This was 1919, and Sasieni has been the closest thing to a household name in English pipes ever since.

The Sasieni appoach to rustication seems to be a lost art, an approach that I, for one, would gladly welcome a return from in some way or another. The key to it is that Sasieni’s craftsmen would hand carve channels into the briar that closely followed the growth ring patterns of the briar itself, not unlike certain approaches to sandblasting. The patterns on each pipe would therefore also be unique, just as every briar block is. This Four Dot, made between 1946 and 1979 (Sasieni’s Family era), is rendered in the make’s Amesbury shape,  Canadian named – as with all Sasieni shapes during this time – after the British town.

The condition of the pipe is overall very good. It does however have a sterling silver repair band. The price will reflect this.
