Castello Sea Rock 4K Bent Bulldog Estate Briar Pipe, Italian Estates
Out of stock
Description
Founded in 1947 by Carlo Scotti, Castello quickly became known for producing some of the finest smoking pipes in the world. Over the years, the people involved in making Castello pipes has changed – such as Luigi Radice and Sergio Ascorti, who developed their skills in the Cantu workshop before leaving to start Caminetto, or the handing of the reigns of the company to Francisco ‘Kino’ Coppo after Scotti’s passing – but the superlative quality of Castello pipes has not. It is not without reason that Castello is known as ‘the Italian Dunhill.’
This is a particularly interesting Castello. For one, I’ve rarely encountered this shape, which I haven’t been able to cross-reference with Castello shape chart either. Second, I don’t think I’ve never encountered this shape in the make’s famed Sea Rock Briar finish. It gives the shape – one which is already a very different, very squat and low-slung, take on the traditional bent bulldog – an even more distinct look.
The condition is great. There’s some inner rim darkening, but it blends with the finish pretty well. This pipe came to us via our trade-in program, and includes its original box and sleeve.
