Royal Guard by Stanwell 538 Bent Apple Estate Briar Pipe, Danish Estates
Out of stock
Description
Stanwell is one of Denmark’s most celebrated and enduring pipe companies, having been founded by Poul Nielsen shortly after the second world war. Over the last six decades, Stanwell has established itself as both a leader in innovative Danish design and for producing well-priced pipes with precision construction and engineering. Many of its designs were created for the company by iconic pipe-makers in the Scandinavian scene, such as Sixten Ivarsson, Anne Julie, Jess Chonowitsch, and Tom Eltang. Royal Guard was one of the many sub-brands made by Stanwell during their Danish production.
Stanwell’s sub-brands are some of the very few places you can find Stanwell shapes in mixed finishes, i.e., with partial sandblasting or rustication. They’re also great for finding slight variations on standard classic shapes. This one is presumably a rendition of one of Stanwell’s “38” shapes, though I’m not sure which one. It is a compact, bent apple shape, with patches of sandblasting interspersed among the pipe’s base light brown polished finish.
The condition is very good. There’s a little inner rim darkening and the stamping is a little faint.
