Peterson Pipe of the Year 2016 Sandblasted Chimney Estate Briar Pipe, Irish Estates

Description

Peterson pipes generally need no introduction, but just in case you’re unfamiliar: in 1876, a Latvian named Charles Peterson immigrated to Ireland and was hired making pipes in a workshop owned by Frederick and George Kapp. After rising through the ranks to become head craftsman, Peterson bought into the Kapp’s business, which was renamed, Kapp & Peterson (K&P). During this time, Peterson himself applied for several patents for pipe designs, including the world-famous Peterson’s System. Since then, Peterson has become one of the most recognizable names in pipe smoking and continues to produce high quality pipes from their headquarters in Dublin.

While Peterson’s Pipe of the Year is always a limited edition pipe, the make’s 2016 Pipe of the Year was a very limited edition pipe. This isn’t just because the pipe is stamped as such, but for two other, more significant, reasons. One is that the shape was a new one in Peterson’s lineup, later becoming the seldom-seen “D20” shape; the other is that, in total, Peterson only manufactured 500 pipes for the occasion. In keeping with the Danish (hence the “D”) theme of other D shapes, this one is a tall, narrow, stack bowl and slim shank, almost reminiscent of some certain Pibe-Dan models, coupled with a black ebonite stem and a sterling silver band.

The condition is excellent. There is one tiny tooth mark on the top end of the stem, but it’s a superficial one.
