Old England 55s by Sasieni Smooth Lovat Estate Briar Pipe, English Estates

Description
Along with names like Barling, Charatan, and Dunhill Sasieni holds a special place in the history of English smoking pipes – one near to its very beginnings. So the story goes, Sasieni himself worked for Dunhill during its early days. But eventually he left Dunhill, having his own ideas about how pipes should be made, and founded Sasieni. This was 1919, and Sasieni has been the closest thing to a household name in English pipes ever since.
Sasieni always had particularly exacting standards for its pipes, even within the highly competitive milieu of 20th century English pipes. So, when a bowl was found to have even the tiniest, superficial imperfection, it would be used for one of Sasieni’s many sub-brands. Such will have been the case for this Old England, which is rendered here in Sasieni’s classic 55S Lovat shape, also known as the Buckingham S. From the “rugby ball” country of manufacture stamp, this Old England looks to have been made during Sasieni’s so-called Family Era.
The condition is good. There’s some darkening and a patch of char on the rim, and some minor tooth chatter, but these do not detract from the pipe’s overall beautiful appearance, and they certainly won’t stop it smoking wonderfully.
