Stefano Santambrogio Rusticated Bent Rhodesian Estate Briar Pipe, Italian Estates [SOLD]

Description

Stefano Santambrogio is one of only a handful of people in the world that can claim to be a third-generation pipe-maker. Like Nanna Ivarsson and Federico Becker, Santambrogio’s father and grandfather both made their living crafting pipes, with Santambrogio inheriting his workshop from his father, Renzo, just as Renzo inherited it (with his brother Armando) from his father, Stefano Sr.

Stefano Santambrogio’s pipes are more playful than most other Italian workshop makes. Like Denmark’s Peder Jeppesen, Santambrogio’s pipes are typically colorful, incorporating mixed finishes and accents in designs that are unique both in relation to other Italian pipes and in relation to other pipes from his own workshop. This one is no different; it is curiously squat and round bent Rhodesian, so much so that it could instead be categorized as a bent ball with bead-lines. The bowl is dressed in a vermicular rustication, while the shank is left smooth, rising toward an amber-hued accent and stem.

The condition is excellent. Upon very close inspection, there is some minor inner rim darkening, but I do mean very minor. The pipe is chambered for 9mm filters as standard, but would also likely accommodate an adapter if one wishes to use it without one.
