Barling Sovereign 6175 Smooth Straight Billiard Estate Briar Pipe [SOLD]
Out of stock
Description
Barling and Sons was originally founded in 1812 by Benjamin Barling and began as a family business making silver-adorned meerschaum pipes. In the early 20th century, however, the Barling family began to produce what the brand is today most famous for – expertly made briar pipes.
Though I can’t give a precise estimation of the date of this Barling, beyond it being a post-transition piece, I can say that it is a genuinely gorgeous pipe. It is a very traditional, stout billiard in the English mold, with a consistent mixture of flame grain and straight grain running up its thick bowl walls – along with plenty of bird’s-eye on top. The ruby red stain does well to bring out these grain patterns, while the pipe’s simple, vulcanite stem offsets the hue of its bowl perfectly.
The condition is excellent. Its previous owner and consignor has taken great care of it, that’s certain.
