Sasieni Mayfair 19 Smooth Straight Billiard Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked
Out of stock
Description
Along with names like Barling, Charatan, and Dunhill Sasieni holds a special place in the history of English smoking pipes – one near to its very beginnings. So the story goes, Sasieni himself worked for Dunhill during its early days. But eventually he left Dunhill, having his own ideas about how pipes should be made, and founded Sasieni. This was 1919, and Sasieni has been the closest thing to a household name in English pipes ever since.
Sasieni always had particularly exacting standards for its pipes, even within the English pipe scene, so when a bowl was found to have even the tiniest, superficial imperfection, the bowl would be used for one of Sasieni’s many sub-brands. Such will have been the case for this Mayfair, which appears to have a few fills or grain inconsistencies around the nomenclature itself, but which is still a very beautiful pipe, and will indeed still be a first-class smoker. It’s a good, sturdy billiard, with a fiery scarlet stain that happens to show off some beautiful bird’s-eye grain around the bowl, finished off with a vulcanite stem.
The condition is excellent. The pipe comes with its original box and unsmoked.
