Description
Johny Pipes are made by artisan Meysam Jahani. While Jahani previously worked in a university, he ultimately left to take on pipe-making in a professional capacity. Jahani’s specialties are calabash shapes – some traditional, some more modern – through which he continues to explore and perfect designs that have been constant fixtures in the world of pipes for centuries.
The calabash is a very old shape within pipe history, but one that has maintained a popular foothold since its inception. Of course, the shape has evolved, and with it the materials used in its construction. Where once the shape was fashioned out of gourd, meerschaum, and amber or bone, today calabashes can be found made solely from meerschaum, or from briar, bog oak (morta), and other hardwoods – with this not even including their other components, such as stems and caps. This calabash, from Iran’s Meysam “Johny” Janai, is a true calabash, in that it features a removable bowl and hollow body, while also being made from briar, a brass stem accent, and a black acrylic stem. Like with a gourd calabash, its hollow briar body allows for the cooling and drying of smoke ass it passes through the pipe, and for easy cleaning afterwards.
This pipe is completely unsmoked, having come to us through our consignment program. It also comes with its original box and sleeve.
