Description
Il Ceppo is an Italian brand that has been producing high-grade pipes since the 1970s. Founded by the architect Giorgio Imperatori in Pesaro, Italy, Il Ceppo is a central figure in what has been called the Pesaro School of pipe design, along with other companies such as Ser Jacopo and Mastro de Paja.
In my experience, Il Ceppo pipes tend to be less inclined towards extravagant and elaborate designs than some of the make’s contemporaries, and more focused on two things: shaping and grain. This Il Ceppo exemplifies that focus: its form follows a natural, almost wavelike curvature from rim to button, with the sides of its bowl and shank burning with flame grain and its rim covered in bird’s-eyes.
The condition is excellent. There’s a little rim darkening on the back lip, but the pipe is nonetheless well preserved.
