2020 Peterson Sherlock Holmes Rathbone Rusticated Bent Billiard Estate Briar Pipe, Irish Estates [SOLD]

Description
Peterson pipes generally need no introduction, but just in case you’re unfamiliar: in 1876, a Latvian named Charles Peterson immigrated to Ireland and was hired making pipes in a workshop owned by Frederick and George Kapp. After rising through the ranks to become head craftsman, Peterson bought into the Kapp’s business, which was renamed, Kapp & Peterson (K&P). During this time, Peterson himself applied for several patents for pipe designs, including the world-famous Peterson’s System. Since then, Peterson has become one of the most recognizable names in pipe smoking and continues to produce high quality pipes from their headquarters in Dublin.
There are few pipe makers who can claim to have created ‘iconic’ pipe designs. There are even fewer who can claim to have created a whole series of them. But, that is what Peterson did between 1989 and 2011, when it released (and subsequently expanded) the ‘Sherlock Holmes’ series. This particular shape, originally released as part of the ‘Return of Sherlock Holmes’ collection, is the Rathbone; it is a tall bent billiard with a sweeping, swan-neck shank and stem. The stack bowl should make for good, long smokes (my personal one certainly does), and Peterson’s signature rocky rustication will provide plenty to hold onto all the while.
The condition is excellent. There’s some very minor, inner rim darkening, but I see nothing significant to otherwise note.
