Peterson 2022 Mark Twain POY Estate Briar Pipe, Irish Estates [SOLD]

Out of stock

Description

Peterson pipes generally need no introduction, but just in case you’re unfamiliar: in 1876, a Latvian named Charles Peterson immigrated to Ireland and was hired making pipes in a workshop owned by Frederick and George Kapp. After rising through the ranks to become head craftsman, Peterson bought into the Kapp’s business, which was renamed, Kapp & Peterson (K&P). During this time, Peterson himself applied for several patents for pipe designs, including the world-famous Peterson’s System. Since then, Peterson has become one of the most recognizable names in pipe smoking and continues to produce high quality pipes from their headquarters in Dublin.

Peterson’s 2022 Pipe of the Year was hotly anticipated by Peterson collectors. The reason for this is that the pipe itself was a reissue of Peterson’s ’14B’ shape, which was originally designed in 1896, and had long been out of regular production. Pipe smokers with literary inclinations may also recognize this design as one of Mark Twain’s favorite companions – in fact, Twain’s own Peterson 14B can be viewed at the author’s museum in Missouri. The pipe has much in common with the modern Deluxe System pipes offered by Peterson, including the System’s patented reservoir, a vulcanite P-lip stem, a metal condenser stinger, and a sterling silver collar.

The condition is excellent. There’s a little bit of finish fading, but nothing major.
