Chacom is one of France’s most historic and iconic makes. Its founders, the Comoy family, began their career as boxwood pipe-makers in the early 1800s, before briar had even been discovered, with Henri Comoy (of Comoy’s fame) emigrating to England in 1879 and founding the country’s first briar pipe factory. In 1922, Henri and his nephews, the Chapuis, founded the Chapuis Comoy pipe factory in Saint-Claude, France, which shortly after began producing pipes bearing the partnered families’ names – ‘Cha’ for Chapuis, and ‘Com’ for Comoy. Chacom has been the biggest name in French pipes ever since.

I’ve said it in a previous listing, but it bears repeating: It’s funny how one small design change can transform a pipe completely. Take the Chacom Hexagone series: the pipes are, essentially, classic shapes, but for the faceted shanks that lend the series its name. This Hexagone is a delightful quarter-bent pot shape, with a very gentle curvature leading from button to base. The pipe also boasts beautiful bird’s-eye grain patterns on its bowl, which are accentuated by its black stem and what I think might be a pair of boxwood bands.

This Hexagone is also completely unsmoked, with a factory-original bowl coating to help ease the break-in process. It also comes with its original box and sleeve.
