Castello Old Antiquari KKKK Liverpool Estate Briar Pipe, Italian Estates [SOLD]
Out of stock
Description
Founded in 1947 by Carlo Scotti, Castello quickly became known for producing some of the finest smoking pipes in the world. Over the years, the people involved in making Castello pipes has changed – such as Luigi Radice and Sergio Ascorti, who developed their skills in the Cantu workshop before leaving to start Caminetto, or the handing of the reigns of the company to Francisco ‘Kino’ Coppo after Scotti’s passing – but the superlative quality of Castello pipes has not. It is not without reason that Castello is known as ‘the Italian Dunhill.’
This is a shape that I don’t see from Castello very often: the classic English Liverpool. Admittedly this is a very Castello-ish rendition of the shape, with a more angular figure and stouter proportions than is tradition, but it is nonetheless rare to find many examples of Castello Liverpools anywhere. This one is offered here in the Old Antiquari finish, Castello’s sandblast series, and judging by the nomenclature, it was made between 1982 (when the lowercase ‘k’ grading system was introduced) and 1986 (after which Castello added a Castle stamp and explicit date codes).
The condition is great. There’s some minor finish fading on the pipe’s smooth rim, but nothing significant. The pipe also comes with its original box and sleeve.
