Description
Wojtek Pastuch is an artisan pipe-maker from Poland. A former student of Mimmo Romeo and Tom Eltang, Pastuch has been carving pipes since 2011, recently serving as part of the visiting faculty for Italy’s prestigious Academia della Pipa alongside its Mastri Romeo, Gioacchino Sauro, Davide Iafisco, and Gabriele Dal Fiume.
Given Wojtek Pastuch’s pipe-making education, it seems only natural that his pipes should display both Danish and Italian influences. This bent egg takes clear shaping cues from the Danish school, with precursors such as Anne Julie, Tom Eltang, and S. Bang; but it also wears a light blonde stain far more common to the Italian schools of Pesaro and Cantu than those of Copenhagen. The simplicity and transparency of the latter works well to reveal the natural grain patterns of the briar used, while the former – no pun intended – allows Pastuch to show off his skills in free-hand briar cutting. At the bowl’s fore lies a curious addition; a patch of bare plateau that more typically would have been placed at the bowl’s rim. It’s a nice touch that lends an extra uniqueness to the overall design. The stem is hand-cut cumberland.
The condition is great. There’s some rim darkening, but that’s all I see worth mentioning. The pipe comes with its original box and sleeve.
