Vauen 1998 Pipe of the Year Estate Briar Pipe Unsmoked, 9mm
Out of stock
Description
Vauen stems from Germany’s oldest tobacco pipe manufacturing company, tracing its roots back to the founding partnership of Karl Ellenberger and Carl August Ziener in Nuremberg, 1848. Out of the Ellenberger-Ziener partnership soon came the Vauen make itself, which grew to become Germany’s largest and most enduring pipe brand – a title that it continues to hold to this day.
Like many of the great makes, Vauen has, since 1993, released a limited edition Pipe of the Year. These are typically unique designs, and Vauen’s are particularly distinct offerings compared to their competitors. This one is no different, hailing from all the way back in 1998, and having come to us through our trade-in program. The pipe is difficult to define, but if I was feeling pretentious (I like to treat myself every so often), I would call it a ‘brutalist volcano.’ It’s a sharp, assertive shape, though one that still has a comfortable enough feel, especially with the extra grip afforded by its rusticated bowl section.
Despite it being over 25 years since this pipe was made, and despite the very limited run it belonged to, it happens to be completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. It also comes with its original presentation box and sleeve. As with most Vauens, it is chambered for 9mm filters, but it would likely accommodate an adapter for non-filtered use if the next owner prefers.
