Vauen 3213 Smooth Bent Apple Estate Briar Pipe Unsmoked, 9mm
Out of stock
Description
Vauen stems from Germany’s oldest tobacco pipe manufacturing company, tracing its roots back to the founding partnership of Karl Ellenberger and Carl August Ziener in Nuremberg, 1848. Out of the Ellenberger-Ziener partnership soon came the Vauen make itself, which grew to become Germany’s largest and most enduring pipe brand – a title that it continues to hold to this day.
I’ve said before that I think Vauen must have taken more than a little inspiration from the great Danish pipe-makers with a few of their designs, and this one is no exception. Looking at the pipe, it’s hard not to see the influence of makers such as Nanna Ivarsson or Jens Tao Nielsen; it is a short, plump apple, or ball, shape, with a distinct, slightly stepped stem and a slim silver band to tie the pipe together. The grain is also particularly striking, with plenty of flame grain and bird’s-eye patterns around the bowl.
This Vauen is also completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating to help with the break-in process. It also comes with its original box and sleeve. As with most Vauen pipes, this one is chambered for 9mm filters, but may accommodate an adapter if one prefers to use it without one.
