Description
Tim West is one of the United States’ oldest and most experienced living artisan pipe-makers, having made his first pipe all the way back in 1967, and having become a full-time pipe maker since 1975. A legend in the scene, West has produced thousands of pipes in his lifetime, and has won his far share of awards for them too.
Looking at this pipe, I can see why Tim West received so many awards for his carving. This one is impressive not just for how well West has managed to express the underlying grain patterns of the briar used, but also for its technical precision. As one would hope from a design such as the freehand vase seen here, the pipe sits on its own, making it ideal for sipping and setting down during long smokes, and for proudly displaying on one’s desk or similar mantles.
The condition is excellent. There’s some very slight inner rim darkening, but otherwise I struggle to find any fault with this one.
