Description
Peterson pipes generally need no introduction, but just in case you’re unfamiliar: in 1876, a Latvian named Charles Peterson immigrated to Ireland and was hired making pipes in a workshop owned by Frederick and George Kapp. After rising through the ranks to become head craftsman, Peterson bought into the Kapp’s business, which was renamed, Kapp & Peterson (K&P). During this time, Peterson himself applied for several patents for pipe designs, including the world-famous Peterson’s System. Since then, Peterson has become one of the most recognizable names in pipe smoking and continues to produce high quality pipes from their headquarters in Dublin.
Peterson’s System pipes utilize a patented reservoir drilled into the base of the bowl. This reservoir is offset from the pipe’s draft hole so that any moisture released while the pipe is in use will collect in the former, rather than the latter, eliminating the gurgle that often comes with bent pipes. It’s an innovation in pipe-making that has existed for well over a century, one which many pipe-smokers swear by. The Premier line is a step up from the Standard System, using the same reservoir system, but also being carved from especially well-grained briar, and fitted with a sterling silver military mount. This one appears to be dressed in Peterson’s particularly high grade natural stain, which does well to emphasize the straight grain patterns of the briar underneath.
This Premier System is also completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating to help ease in its first smokes. It also comes with its original box and sleeve.
