Chacom Canaries Smooth Bent Billiard Estate Briar Pipe [SOLD OUT]

Description

Chacom is one of France’s most historic and iconic makes. Its founders, the Comoy family, began their career as boxwood pipe-makers in the early 1800s, before briar had even been discovered, with Henri Comoy (of Comoy’s fame) emigrating to England in 1879 and founding the country’s first briar pipe factory. In 1922, Henri and his nephews, the Chapuis, founded the Chapuis Comoy pipe factory in Saint-Claude, France, which shortly after began producing pipes bearing the partnered families’ names – Cha for Chapuis, and Com for Comoy. Chacom has been the biggest name in French pipes ever since.

You can usually count on the French to create beautiful things. This is no exception to that. It’s a relatively traditional, slightly bent billiard, but it has a striking combination of colors that sets it apart from many of its cousins in the English-French style. The red-yellow-black theme, created by its deep red stain, exotic wood accent (boxwood, perhaps?), and vulcanite stem, is particularly striking, without being gaudy.

The overall condition is excellent, but I must note that there does appear to be a small patch of charring on the top left side of the bowl exterior (see pictures). There is nothing on the inside of the bowl to suggest its source was internal, so I can only assume the previous owner had a brief moment of carelessness when lighting a bowl one day. Given that the rest of the bowl and rim are absent of such issues, it seems that this was only a single, temporary lapse of attention. It happens to us all, sometimes.
