Chacom Manet Smooth Bent Rhodesian Estate Briar Pipe [SOLD OUT]

Description

Chacom is one of France’s most historic and iconic makes. Its founders, the Comoy family, began their career as boxwood pipe-makers in the early 1800s, before briar had even been discovered, with Henri Comoy (of Comoy’s fame) emigrating to England in 1879 and founding the country’s first briar pipe factory. In 1922, Henri and his nephews, the Chapuis, founded the Chapuis Comoy pipe factory in Saint-Claude, France, which shortly after began producing pipes bearing the partnered families’ names – ‘Cha’ for Chapuis, and ‘Com’ for Comoy. Chacom has been the biggest name in French pipes ever since.

While mainly known for their traditionally styled pipes, Chacom has for several decades now expanded their range of available lines to feature stains of a rather non-traditional variety. These stains, typically themed, are far more adventurous and artistic than other briars, and make for eye-catching smokers. This Chacom is from the Manet line, which I imagine was named after French painter Edouard Manet – and whose finishes might well have been inspired by Manet’s later, impressionist works. It is certainly a striking pipe, but one which is not garish. The Rhodesian shape is also very much comfortable in the hand.

The condition is excellent. The finish has held up nicely, and there are no blemishes or scrapes that need mentioning.
