GBD Celebrity 268, Smooth Bulldog Estate Briar Pipe [SOLD OUT]

Description

GBD was one of several prominent examples of a French pipe brand that, due to certain circumstances, became a maker associated with classic ‘British’ pipes. Founded in 1850 by the French trio Ganneval, Bondier & Donninger, the brand was bought and moved to London at the beginning of the 20th century, were it continued to produce high-quality and highly desirable pipes.

This GBD is a nice straight bulldog in the traditional English-French style, which is to be expected given the make’s heritage. The Celebrity was a line with a stain a little darker than others, which gives the pipe a warm, brown sugar hue that works well with its black vulcanite saddle stem. It’s a light-weight bulldog, lighter than the shape tends to be, which will make it an easy clencher, portable, and well suited as a workhorse for when you’re smoking on the go, or while doing various chores.

The condition is good. The rim is a little darkened, there are some very minor handling marks around the bowl, and the stem has a tiny bit of chatter around the button, but these are superficial imperfections that won’t interfere with its smoking properties.
